AUDITIONS - GUYS AND DOLLS 

The City of Deer Park Parks and Recreation Department and The Art Park Players will be holding open auditions for their next production of GUYS AND DOLLS, music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, and a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, Tuesday, August 14, beginning at 7 pm, Callbacks will be on Wednesday, August 15 if necessary.

Prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show. There will be NO accompanist. You must bring a CD with an accompaniment, or have a digital file (flash drive/or mobile) provided it is edited and cued correctly. A résumé and 8”×10” headshot is requested, but not required. Please also wear or bring comfortable dance attire, as all who audition will be required to learn a short dance/movement combination.

Bring a list of all potential conflicts including travel, etc. Any conflicts with the posted schedule must be discussed with the Producer and agreed to by the Director before casting can be confirmed. GUYS AND DOLLS will be directed by David Eck.

Auditions will be held at the Theatre/Courts Building at 1302 Center Street, Deer Park, TX 77536.

Performances Dates: October 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26 and 27

Rehearsals will begin on August 20th. Rehearsals will be Monday through Friday 7-10 pm and Saturdays 11 am - 2 pm (subject to change)

To be considered for all roles, you must be able to commit to all rehearsals during the tech weeks October 1 - through opening night on October 12th.

ROLES TO BE CAST:

Nathan Detroit: Male, 45-55 funny, warm and appealing character man. Engaged to Adelaide for 14 years, he is always looking for the big break he never seems to get. Superb comic timing; baritone-high F. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

SKY MASTERSON: Male, 35-50 romantic, but cool and suave, very attractive. Extraordinary presence and charm…though a slick performer, he also has a vulnerable heart; baritone B-Eb. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

ADELAIDE: Female, 30-40 funny, quirky, show girl with a heart of gold. Engaged to Nathan for 14 years, and is ready to settle down. Superb comic timing; alto, A-E5. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

SARAH BROWN: Female, 25-35 lovely and elegantly “upright" by nature, she’s still ready and able to "let her hair down"; soprano-high A. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

NICELY-NICELY JOHNSON: 35-50 character man, best pal to Nathan Detroit; excellent comic timing; tenor-high Bb. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

BENNY SOUTHSTREET: Male, 35-50 character man, quirky and fun; strong baritone-high G. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

BIG JULE: Male, 40-55 the gangster most feared. All physical types will be considered with preference for men over 6’3” or under 5’4”; baritone. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

ANGIE THE OX, RUSTY CHARLIE, HARRY THE HORSE: Male, 35-55 character men, comic, varied and interesting physical types. Lovable two-bit gangsters. All vocal ranges. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

ARVIDE ABERNATHY: 60+ wise, gentle leader of the Salvation Army in Times Square. Family to Sarah Brown; baritone. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

GENERAL CARTWRIGHT: Female, 50+ strong, no nonsense, good comic timing; dramatic soprano chops a plus. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

LT. BRANNIGAN: Male, 45+ tough guy cop, swings his weight around. ETHNICITY: All Ethnicities

HOT BOX GIRLS: Female. 20’s – 40’s Seeking vibrant and funny women, excellent dancer/singers with distinct character.

MALE ENSEMBLE: 20 - 50 Singers/dancers of all shapes, ages, and sizes with classical musical theatre vocals and infectious, distinct personalities to portray gamblers and various city dwellers.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE: 20 - 50 singers/dancers of all shapes, ages, and sizes with classical musical theatre vocals and infectious, distinct personalities to portray Mission Band and various city dwellers
